We support the integration of microgrids through an optimal control strategy
A controller developed by SIS on a redundant Siemens S7-1500 platform ensures the monitoring and control of the elements, so as to efficiently use the available generation and storage resources and to optimize, depending on the cost, the amount of energy taken from the national network. In the Monsson case study, advanced control algorithms were used for the SIS microgrid controller solution, which go beyond the usual functions in the global controller market.

Project results
– electricity produced from other renewable sources: 1.5 MWh / year
– estimated annual reduction of CO2 emissions: 475 kg CO2 / year
– installed capacity to produce energy from other renewable energy sources: 127 kWp
– additional income from the sale of surplus energy

SUCCESSFULLY ENDING SECOND STAGE OF THE SMART ΜGC PROJECT

During the second stage the efforts were concentrated on the prototype definition, including components, specifications, roles of different devices and identification of technical challenges which need to be addressed. For this several remote meetings were taken will main actors involved in the prototype design, as brainstorming for identification of best solutions and selection of equipment for the microgrid pilot.

SUCCESSFULLY ENDING FOURTH STAGE OF THE SMART ΜGC PROJECT

During this stage main efforts were concentrated on two activities: remote platform development for modelling and simulation, and microgrid pilot use-case design and development. We continued our research regarding various possible software tools, could use to implement the remote platform by evaluating their technical specifications, participating at webinars and online meetings, installing demo software, where available, to see how available functions respond to stakeholders needs, checking outputs and interoperability features. We concluded that complex tools are usually hosted in cloud environments and can be used on a subscription basis. Under the conditions SIS team decide to choose a solution based on several software modules which can be integrated to respond to requirements. SIS teams working on the data acquisition and visualisation module, defining the screen templates, building the graphical elements, adding trends, logs and alarms.
