SUCCESSFULLY ENDING SECOND STAGE OF THE SMART ΜGC PROJECT

From the technical expertise partners received from our subcontractor a report on the optimal operation of a microgrid by decision-based algorithm, based on the consumption curve received from the pilot owner, Monsson, and considering the defined system architecture.

During this period the analyses of the design of the microgrid, starting from the existing equipment (or already acquisitioned) at the pilot owner site: the PV panels with a peak power of 127 kWp, the string box (SBB) acting as a DC-DC converter with the role of maximizing the produced solar power, the inverter managing the power flow between all elements and two types of storage batteries, from different manufacturers and with different loads, which require a more focused control and thus will allow us to increase know-how in such applications. In addition to this, they added to the site the DC-DC converters allowing individual battery control required for this configuration and the electrical control cabinet which will be connected to the main consumer panel and to the grid integration.

After detailed analysis of the specification of this equipment we designed the automation control system, the relevant parameters which will be included in the control strategy and the communication and interconnection diagrams. Based on these elements we added to the microgrid the equipment required for data acquisition, integration and control (controller modules consisting in control cabinet and PLC, smart building controllers with remote connectivity option, power analyzers, network connectors and grid coupling/decoupling device). For the PLC we used a redundant architecture to increase application reliability and evaluate its behavior and the control strategy also for critical applications.
