CONSORTIUM MEETING IN BUCHAREST

The PARFAIT project consortium, funded through the ITEA program, met in Bucharest on March 26-27 to evaluate the progress made and to establish the following directions to be followed. The work packages that have been carried out so far have been discussed and the results obtained in the deliverables completed in WP 2 – Usage scenarios, specifications and technical requirements have been resumed.

The session concluded that the final solution will be a modular one, so that it can be integrated both in new applications and in existing applications using common technologies in the industrial field, such as OPC communication. During the project, the partners will collaborate in the implementation of case studies in the field of smart homes (Smart Home), and this will be adapted to other areas as well. The use of hardware keys to secure the IoT communication between a local application and a storage server or a user application is considered.

The following actions will include:

– defining the system architecture

 – implementation of demonstrators

 – establishing the strategy of dissemination and exploitation

SIS will participate in the project with a case study for monitoring the environmental parameters and energy consumption in a building. The data will be securely transmitted through IoT to a Cloud SCADA server for storage, visualization and analysis.

Systems with increased safety have been regulated since 1996 by adopting the standard for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). The regulations have continued and continue due to the need to make certain systems and applications as safe as possible. The main applications that require the use of devices and equipment with a guaranteed degree of safety in operation “Safety Instrumented Level- SIL” are:

  • Fire and gas detection and alarm systems for fire and explosive gases
  • Burner Management Systems-BMS combustion control and protection systems
  • Emergency Shut Down Systems- ESD safety shutdown systems

Fire and Gas systems are detection, alarm and intervention systems, including extinguishing. The systems are present both in the constructions and in the industry. Depending on the area of work the devices, equipment and means are different. SIS having over 28 years experience in the field is a technical leader providing the most suitable solutions so that the client can obtain the best price / performance ratio. Industrial systems are those that require systems with SIL from 1 to 3, the level being established by risk and hazard analysis through HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID studies, etc. The main elements that form part of a Fire and Gas system are explosive gas detectors, flame detectors, alarm buttons, warning sirens and controllers with increased safety.

  • BMS systems are systems for protecting the operating modes of combustion processes including:
  • Boilers
  • Furnaces
  • Steam generators with heat recovery
  • Reform
  • Incinerators

Respecting international and Romanian standards both in the design phase and in the implementation of the combustion control systems; IEC 61508, IEC 61511, EN 50156 is the guarantee of conformity to the concept of functional safety throughout life (Safety Lifecycle).

ESD systems based on a performance controller with SIL 3 are developed by SIS based on the 3 product lines manufactured by HIMA Germany; HIQuad, HIMatrix, HIMax. SIS is able to design and implement the unique HIMA “Safety Non Stop” concept that ensures the owner that hardware or software modifications, adaptations, extensions will be made without stopping the process.
